The Press Club , Mumbai, Managing Committee has published the final voters list for the Club elections -2010 and appointed a very senior member Mr Vinod Vasudeo as Returning Officer for this.
The election schedule , however, is yet to be announced. But it may broadly be in mid-July , on the lines of the elections in 2008 and 2006
The voters list was displayed on the Club notice board on Wednesday evening of May 12 ,2010.
The very next day some members saw that the last name in the list (a lady)was 'blackened'. A day before she was seen thanking profusely a managing committee member and an office bearer for making her a member of the club.
Tempering in the published final voters list was done without due permission from the Returning Officer as he confided with a member later and wondered why a copy of this list was not given to him.
A manager of the Club was heard explaining that 'it was a technical mistake ' as the last name included in the voters list was yet to complete formalities to become member of the Club. He did not have ready made answer as to who blackened the last name in the list.
There are 900 plus voters, about two hundred more than in the last elections held in 2008 .
Of them many , including Mr Gautam Chkraborty , Parikshit Joshi and Mr Pattabhi have ceased to be journalists and are working for PR Agencies for last many years.
In fact, a notice was duly served to them by the then chairman of the club membership scrutiny Committee , Mr Sunil Shivdasani , a couple of months before the elections in 2008.
The current Scrutiny Committee was mandated by the last AGM on the eve of the elections in 2008 to initiate further steps on that issue.
We do not have any update on that and shall like to hear about it from Mr Dara or Mr M J Pande or any other member of the present Scrutiny Committee .
